Soca music goes beyond the concept of yearly offerings for a singular island celebration of carnival. Soca artistes are releasing music throughout the year now... we have one from a Trinidad and Tobago artiste, Preedy, celebrating his love for the vibe of an island that makes Lucian culture so alluring. This is new music, released in time for Lucian Carnival 2019, the song is entitled "Piton Mountain" sung by the very talented Akeem "Preedy" Chance.
It is a blessing to have someone from another Caribbean island praising the virtues of the people of another territory. Preedy is one of the first, if not the first artiste from another island (Trinidad) celebrating the people, music and culture of Saint Lucia. This is what enhancing the brand is all about. Preedy has taken his talent and shown the rest of the artistes what they need to do to become relevant throughout the Caribbean Basin. This is an excellent song and it should do well with the Lucian people.
There are several Summer Carnivals in the Caribbean region. Trinidad & Tobago and Carriacou were the first islands to deliver a catalog of Soca music geared for carnival. However, many of the songs were written to be relevant, not just for one territory but for World relevance. Preedy has targeted the Saint Lucian audience for good reason. He wanted to give back for the love he experienced while visiting that island!
We cannot live in a box, but expand and leave any insular thinking behind to fester is past historical ignorance. Preedy has shown that he is an artiste whose catalog will reach out to the World.
