From Vincy to the VI: ‘Wuk’ Brings the Diaspora Bounce

Today we head across to the wider Caribbean diaspora for a new release titled “Wuk” by the ever‑popular Problem Child out of Saint Vincent and an artist known as Hunter—and no, not Trinidad’s chutney singer “Hunter.” This Hunter is Hunter Simpson, a Philadelphia‑born, nashy‑looking soca artist now based in the U.S. Virgin Islands. And while he might look like a "white boy singing soca,” he’s not new to the culture. His track record includes “Huntin’” with Mr. Killa and DJ Avalanche, “Feter” with Denise Belfon, and his own collaborations like “Bro Code” with Jab King.

Written by Hunter Simpson and Shertz James, “Wuk” carries an upbeat, rhythmic soca vibe—the kind of bounce that Problem Child naturally elevates. The visualizer keeps the energy consistent, switching between both artists’ locations as the track moves along. Problem Child is seen vibing on the beach, while Hunter performs next to a building—but the two are never shown together. For a collaboration like this, it would’ve been nice to see them share the same frame, trading energy and bringing that cross‑island chemistry to life.

Musically, “Wuk” is clean, lively, and built for movement. It’s not trying to reinvent soca—it leans into the familiar, fun, fete‑ready energy that keeps the genre alive across the diaspora. This one feels like a nice song, a solid addition to the 2027 soca landscape, but not necessarily the breakout hit that will dominate the season.

Still, it’s a promising look for cross‑island collaboration and a reminder that soca’s reach—and its contributors—continue to expand far beyond the Caribbean shoreline.

New music for the season. We’re keeping it simple:
