It is Friday and unusually warm in New York City; we decided to bring you some heat via some vibrant Soca songs on an exquisitely produced mixtape. Yesterday, while at the gym, I listened to an early season mix done at the beginning of Trinidad and Tobago's carnival. Take note that this is an early Carnival Soca music sampler mixtape. The mixtape is entitled "Anything Goes Mixshow" and was produced by "ThisIsJester". This is a fantastic way to start the weekend off, and I really enjoyed listening to the music.
Mixtapes usually feature DJ introductions and music. Some listeners prefer interactive DJs. We think that this mixtape is an excellent example of how to balance a DJ's interaction with the music. We absolutely believe you will love this DJ's work.
So, what do we like about the mixtape? Firstly, we like the DJ's voice. DJs should never talk over the music. There are many DJs out there who overreach and ruin an enjoyable musical session. ThisIsJester has a voice that flows with the music... We love that!
The song selections are very engaging, and the music flow keeps you on your toes. This mixtape will have you moving, dancing, prancing and having a good time for the entire session. The music selections feature artists from across the Caribbean diaspora. This is a Caribbean mixtape and should bode well for Carnival in 2023.
We don't need to dig deeper into the tape, but we must add this... how the DJ interacts with the music is just as critical as the impact his voice has on the listening Soca massive. 'ThisIsJester' did not overdo it. He adds snippets to enhance the song's impact and calls out the artist's name. Some DJ's simply play the music and if you are not familiar with the artist you will wonder who sang the song.
So, as you prepare for the weekend, we think this mixtape can enhance your vibe and create musical euphoria. It's only one hour and you'll be engaged during the music session, we promise. Kudos to 'ThisIsJester' for creating a mixtape that can be played all year long at all Caribbean and North American carnivals in 2023. Enjoy!
