Today we are posting a new Calypso release from former Calypso Monarch Duane O'Connor, the song is entitled, "D Ting Fix". One may wonder what happened to Calypso music in Trinidad and Tobago and its place for today's carnival celebration. The problem is the Calypsonian; they are focused on a style of Calypso music that does not lend itself to dancing...

So much Soca music but what happened to all of the Calypso music? There was a time when Calypso was the King of all Caribbean carnivals. Today the story has changed, Caribbean styled carnivals are all about Soca music. Now that does not mean to say that Calypso is dead, hell no. There are Calypso tents doing business for Trinidad and Tobago carnival along with a national Calypso Monarch competition. The problem is that the Calypsonians are not creating dance calypso songs. Almost all the songs are Social or Political commentary. These songs are suited for tent performances and for tapping toes but not for dancing the way it used to be "back in the day". 

So what about "D Ting Fix"? Well, credit Junior "Ibo" Joseph for bringing back some movement in sound for this one. At least this one has a vibe and one can see real Calypso lovers dancing to this one. Duane O'Connor is consistent with his Calypso offerings year after year. Let's see how far this one takes him for this carnival, 2023. We approve of this song... nice!
