Woulda Mash-Up Carnival 2021 | Hornin' First

As we look forward to a 'proposed carnival 2022' let's take a look back at what would have happened if we had a carnival in 2021. We are not going to look and a bunch of songs but just one today, "Hornin' First" by Viking Ding Dong x Mical Teja.  This song is sick and if there is a carnival in 2022 this is a guaranteed play in carnival fetes across the Caribbean basin.

Let's clear the air for people not familiar with West Indian chat. 'Woulda Mash-Up Carnival 2021', what does that mean? Simply put, Hornin' First would have been one of the most popular songs played on radio and especially in fetes (carnival parties). The song would have provided the lyrical content for animated behavior/gestures when played. In other words, carnival domination! Checkmark for this explanation, hope that helps...

The vibe of the 24 Hour Riddim feels really good then add the use of the horn (brass section) for this vibe, just niceness! This song is what we say in the islands, plain talk bad manners. Everyone knows that men talk a good talk but they just can't-take-a-horn. This is one song that speaks the truth, men can't hand horn so take to the front and horn first... cry later!

This song really puts Viking Ding Dong in a good place, Dingers has been the joke of the day too many times on the radio... he just laughs it off but this song would have been a fete anthem if we had a carnival for 2021 in Trinidad and Tobago. So today, we celebrate Dingers and Mical Teja; this song is wicked. One thing we can complain about, why just 2:30 minutes? This song should be redone with a length of 3:30 minutes.

We have the Official Visualizer YouTube video posted for the song. Just look at Ding Dong and he will cause you to smile. Then again, Micha Teja shows what could have been the dance for this song. Just imagine people doing the brass/horn dance in a fete... see what we all missed! Next year people, next year!
