Looking For China | Bunji Garlin | Trinidad Soca 2020

What is Bunji Garlin really looking for? Do you think that he is looking towards the far east or a mythical namesake? Well, let's take a look at what is going on here and come to terms with this song that has some slick, sly lyrical content.

This is new music for Trinidad and Tobago carnival 2020. The song is entitled "Looking For China" performed by the Viking of Soca.

Let's head on over to YouTube where the song was released and look at some of the comments. All those who claim to know what Bunji is singing about have tuned in to their creative side of the thinking process.

We all know that Calypsonians, and by extension Soca artists, can be very clever with the use of what we know as double entendre writing skills that are uses to deliver witty dual meaning lyrical content.

Some of the comments read that they 'got it" immediately. Nice, then again, some have called it witty and even said that 'only the Viking' can get away with something like that. What do you think is going on here? What did Bunji and his clever co-writer(Fay-Ann Lyons Alvarez) have in mind when they wrote this song? Consider this, take out the word "China" and substitute it with the word "Gina" as in the vagina. Ahem, pay attention... this is where you stop reading and press play to really listen and pay attention to the lyrical content.  Oh, now you get it! Clarity of thought and the skill of our songwriters become evident.

They talked about the 'the precious gem you can't find it, 'right of passage' and how it is 'it is expensive to get to but nice when you get through' and 'it is written in our DNA' to guide you to the saucy dual meaning of this song. The trials and tribulations are written in our DNA to seek and find and the rewards when you find it because x marks the spot! Listen well and follow Garlin as he cleverly navigates this saucy topic. We think you will get it.
