Grenada's Soca Monarch competition took place at the National Stadium last night. The show was a success with excellent attendance and audience participation. The results are in and we have them here along with a few comments. Tell us what you think about the show for 2019,
This is an interesting result for the Groovy Soca Monarch 2019. Just when the audience had V'ghn taking the title for 2019 the judges saw it differently and tied the defending monarch Dash with V'ghn for first place. Grenada has a dual Monarch for Spice Mas 2019. Jevaughn John (V'ghn) and Shondell Amada (Dash) tied for the Groovy Soca Monarch Title this year.
An interesting result that left a buzz at the National Stadium but that was quickly set aside as the audience got ready for the Power Soca Monarch results. The Power Soca competition is simply called the 'Soca Monarch' in Grenada. As one cane tell, importance is placed on the Soca Monarch with the Groovy Soca Monarch taking a back seat to the uptempo Soca music style.
It is very interesting to note that like Saint Vincent, Groovy Soca was limited in Grenada. The emphasis was on Power Soca music. We think that is a very big mistake and, from this, one can tell that for carnival, fast paced Soca reigns supreme. This may work for carnival and will provide short term success for the artiste but does not bode well for those who wish to impact a World audience.
