The word "woi", used singularly, means "Used when something unexpected or when something extraordinary or even something remotely interesting, happens". Benjai sings about going to hunt as a young man with two friends and dogs (to chase down prey) but were surprised by a snake coming out of a lot... he made the point of saying that you must "respect the laws of nature" (doh trouble... trouble). If you happen to come across a snake, unexpectedly in the woods, then 'woi' becomes woi, woi, woi!
This is Benjai... expect the unexpected; but, you should always expect something different and good at the same time. For this offering, he teamed up with GI and married our Calypso heritage with our East Indian experience. This is the first song for Carnival 2019 that partners singers from the two major cultures of the island vocalizing the song in English and Hindi/Bhojpuri.
The song itself is very catchy and rhymes well listening to Benjai. At the same time, it was written to put a smile on your face... the story is vivid and captivating. Listen to Benjai as he tells the story; allow your imagination to take the journey with him. I have a very vivid imagination, remembering the times I went into the woods with my friends as a youth. If you had similar experiences then the story will resonate well making the song feel so much better. As mentioned above, we like the music, it is catchy and easy to 'bounce with'. The production team came up with a song and a vibe that is different to everything released to date making this song unique.
We had an Indian doctor (works with us/homeland Kenya) listen to the Hindi portion of the song. It looks like GI is saying the same thing that Benji said for his part of the song. Hey, we tried!
