Get Eeen | Jaiga | Trinidad & Tobago 2019

I got dizzy looking at the credits for this song, entitled "Get Eeen" by Jaiga. The list of credits just kept going on... but did it all add up to something special? Let's dig into this new music from Jaiga for Trinidad and Tobago carnival 2018. "Get Eeen" sounds like a spin-off from the very popular 'ah-get-through'; this one feels like a throw-back song for limin' with friends.

We have a policy of listening to a song one time and posting our impressions of the total product. our policy is that if you have to play a song several times to feel it... then you are reaching! Something has to click from the get-go or you have to let it go! This is where we are with this new music release.

Impressive credits don't always add up to something special. Jaiga has a podcast where he features new music to those who love Soca... I wonder how he would have handled this song if it came from another artiste? To be honest this song has the feel of a group of guys liming, drinking and having a good time. If you are thinking of a back in the day vibe or just thinking about a 'song to lime and jam to' then you are on the same page with us. However, that does not translate to a 'hit song'. It takes a lot more to hook today's Soca music critics (the general public that loves the music). The use of musical instruments in the production was a good move but it takes more to get to the finish line to bathe is the glory of a hit song. I listened but I felt cheated! I listened and searched for a hook to pull me in or something special about the music or vocals to tantalize and tease but was left hanging... damn (well, we found a hook posted in italics below). I like Jaiga but I felt cheated waiting for something special to happen with this production... it did not happen!

Sorry, but Jaiga, you need to call on Shabba a bit more, we don't feel this one (as a carnival hit) but it could turn out to be a good river lime song! Indeed there are parts of the song that felt good but it fell off as the rest of the 'vibe' developed... "Play me ah rhythm pam pa dah, whoh I come for dat"... this has potential!
