Year For Love | Voice | Our Song of the Year!

If one has to choose one 'riddim' for Trinidad and Tobago carnival 2018 then that one should be the Upendo Riddim. Every song recorded is excellent. We especially like Machel's 'Take It Slow' but then came Aaron "Voice" St Louis with a song entitled "Year For Love"... what an inspiring song! If we had to choose one song that absolutely delivers a positive message, excellent vocals and sweet musical vibe and one that has an excellent groove then "Year For Love" is that song.

We understand that you can go to YouTube and list a slew of songs with many more 'hits' but we are not placing value on this song by the numbers. We think the value of this song lies in the lyrical content and the excellence of the singer. We stand firm! Simply put, Year For Love may not be the most popular song for carnival 2018 but for us it is our 'song of the year'!

All songs from the Upendo Riddim have been posted to this Blog. However on this day we chose to reiterate our belief that this song stands proudly above the rest. This, in our opinion, is our song of the year. We are not going to get into any argument with anyone regarding 'Hello' or any of the other excellent music releases... "Year For Love" is our song of choice.

In the world of the steel band panorama competition we need to pay attention to two bands that will be playing "Year For Love". Renegades and Desperados will be playing at numbers ten and eleven for the semi finals scheduled for the Queen's Park Savannah on Sunday January 28th. 2018. Duvone Stewart arranges for Renegades while Carlton "Zanda" Alexander did the arrangement for Desperados. Tune in for the "Year For Love" best musical arrangement!

Music Release Notes:
Nine Mind Entertainment and Lenkey Records presents the Upendo Rddim for Carnival 2018; a fusion of sweet calypso groove, vintage flavours and modern tones. When we speak ‘Upendo’ (Ou-Pendo) we mean Love. The Swahili word is reflective of our African origins and the language is one of the most popular in the continent of Africa.

Drawing inspiration from the land of our ancestors is an intentional reminder of the root of our culture and the origination of sweet Calypso music. The Upendo Riddim represents Love, which is one of the keys to our salvation. In this critical time, we need Love. To survive in today’s world, we need to be reminded of the power of love.

Love is the key. Let the sentiment of Love and all that is involuntary about it control you.

Some of the strongest musical names in Caribbean music have joined the Upendo movement with Nine Mind Entertainment and Lenkey Records. Each track has the underlying message of love in varying scenarios. They are:
  • Machel Montano - Take It Slow
  • Voice - Year For Love
  • Turner - Champions
  • M1 aka Menace - Ups And Downs
  • I-Octane - Hey Mama
