Pick your Groovy Soca Monarch Winner | International Soca Monarch 2015

So here we are again with another Groovy Soca Monarch competition to decide. Who will win it? It is now an open race with last year's winner Kerwin Du Bois choosing not to defend the crown he won. Everyone has a favorite but today I am choosing four singers whom I believe can take the crown: Olatunji Yearwood, Destra Garcia, Darryl Henry aka Farmer Nappy and Rodney Le Blanc aka Benjai.

Personally I would like to see Destra Garcia win it all but after watching Olatunji Yearwood performn my doubts for a Destra Victory have clouded my thought process. It would be interesting to see these artists perform on the night  of the finals... could it be Olatunji or Destra or one of the other two artists mentioned in this post. Obviously it comes down to one last performance for each artist. Confidence and the ability to sing under pressure, good execution and some luck will favor the victorious "singer".

Now we have to consider Farmer Nappy and Benji. Farmer Nappy performed well during the semi final round of competition. He was in control but I don't think that the Lords Prayer should not be part of a carnival event... what do you think?

Benjai and Phenomenal... he is an underrated competitor but dangerous for sure. He has a wonderful song and all he needs to do is deliver a stellar performance to get in the top three or win it all.

I picked four artists but then again anyone can surprise us for the finals. Lyrikal has an excellent song but he needs to deliver a controlled performance. During the semi final performance he was out of breath on the stage... this cannot happen for the finals.

I have to mention the reigning Calypso Monarch of Trinidad and Tobago. This guy is very good and I noticed a post on islandmix that stated: "Reinging calypso monarch Chucky Gordon brings professional polish to his performance.....and all the music live....no backing electronic recording here" (dedetriniking on islandmix). Yes, Chucky can sing and he can pose problems for the so called 'main contenders'.

What do you think? Do you have a favorite or have you analyzed the semi final performances and come to a conclusion that artist "x" is going to take it? My personal choice is Destra Garcia singing Lucy produced by De Red Boyz out of Barbados. That song is sweet but 'Ola' by Olatunji appears to be the peoples' favorite. Let's see how this plays out on stage. The main question is, will the judges judge on performance and excellent singing or hype and unknown rules that will make me remember Shadows song 'Jump Judges Jump'!
