Shock Dem by Mr. Vegas | Jamaica/Trinidad & Tobago 2014

This is not a novelty track! This is Mr. Vegas from Jamaica teaming up with the Lucians to create a Power Soca track entitled "Shock Dem.". This is a fitting name for this song since it is Mr. Vegas' first Soca track. Now keep in mind that Mr. Vegas is a very famous reggae/dancehall artist. He chose Studio 758 out of Saint Lucia to produce this song, with Trinidad being the first entry point for this song. Mr. Vegas's well-known status in Trinidad and Tobago makes this a wise decision, and we anticipate positive reception. How popular the song becomes depends on the 'sometimeish' behavior of Trinidadians!

This could be a hit or miss for Mr. Vegas, but it is one of the better Power songs released at this point (still early for Carnival 2014). To be honest, the Power Soca songs released to date have not been good enough... seriously now! The groovy segment is blossoming with many releases (not all good) but a lot of decent tracks. I can't say the same for the Power Soca segment. Mr. Vegas' song should get some attention early but may not last and fall off the frequently played songs when the better-known artists release their Power Soca songs. For now, I give this song a pass...

Press Release:
Mr. Vegas, who is well known in the music world for his reggae/dancehall music, is taking on the Soca genre! He has teamed up with producers Studio 758 and MV Music to introduce himself in the Soca world. Yes, I said SOCA!! Mr. Vegas has taken the same energy he puts into his reggae music and infused it into his first official Soca single, "Shock Dem." It should not come as a 'shock' that Vegas is venturing into Soca. He collaborated with the Queen of Soca, Allison Hinds, on his latest album, "Bruk it Down 2.0.".

"Just reminding the Caribbean people that we are one and should treat each other as one. I'm ready for the 2014 Carnival!" -- Mr. Vegas

Mr. Vegas, who is no stranger to Carnival, recorded this song in St. Lucia. He has also teamed up with Soca legend Machel Montano on the songs "Dance With You" and "Genie Wine." If you know Vegas, you know that he is a phenomenal performer, so this is something you don't want to miss.

You can catch videos of Mr. Vegas in Carnival soon on his YouTube channel, MrVegasTV, or on his website, Mr. Vegas Music, but in the meantime, check out the new Soca song 'Shock Dem' that will definitely have everyone feeling like "It's Carnival"!
