This is new music out of New York City for Trinidad and Tobago's Carnival 2014. You will love the people behind the music because in certain circles these guys are well respected. Yankeyboy flies the Trinidad and Tobago national flag in NYC along with DJ Future of Ahtik Studios. Frykton, on the other hand, is the pride and joy of Saint Vincent and the man is loaded with talent!
The music is a mixture of Soca styles from Trinidad, New York City and Saint Vincent. All of these guys call New York City home. In my view this is new Soca music from the city that never sleeps released in time for the build up to Trinidad and Tobago's carnival season. The lines between Christmas and Carnival are blurred lines (pardon the pun) and I doubt that Robin Thicke will mind the reference.
The hook of "Don't Spoil De Party" is an excellent one but the song simply does not live up to expectations. Something about it does not hook me and, to be honest, the hits on YouTube are telling. This song is struggling to reach 1,000 hits on YouTube as of this posting. I don't think that I heard this song on the radio stations in Trinidad yet. Surely this is not the Asti Riddim! I like Yankeyboy but I don't get the feeling that this one will become a hit in Trinidad and Tobago. I hope that I am wrong because Yankeyboy has so much untapped potential to become a Soca sensation... we will have to wait and see how this plays out.
