Wheel and Come Again Radio #5 Reggae Revival: Skank Back to the ‘70s with Mr. Desmond

We explained in our previous post on R&B Soul why we briefly strayed from Soca and Calypso, but don't worry, we'll be returning to Soca and Calypso soon. This episode is the second hour of programming on Saturday that went into some of the old-school Caribbean reggae that ruled Trinidad and Tobago during the seventies. This installment is part of the OSS (Old School Saturdays—De OSS) programming.

As you can tell, at Sokah2Soca, we don’t just archive history—we revive it. This segment shines a spotlight on the early reggae anthems that ruled the party scenes and daily life across the Caribbean in the 1970s. Before the bashment and riddim revolution, roots reggae laid the foundation with soul, struggle, and irie vibes.

Mr. Desmond digs into the crates for the sounds that shaped generations—music that blasted from backyard speakers, corner shops, and dancehalls alike. Consider Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown, and many more surprises that you must listen to to understand why this post is so relevant. These weren’t just songs. They were lifelines.

So tune in, rewind with pride, and let the skank take you home. Old School Reggae Replay is on air to play anytime, anywhere and on demand—and it’s nothing but pure foundational music.

Let us spread awareness of the Caribbean diaspora's culture.
Our goal is to promote Caribbean culture, musicians, and music producers. We are able to honor and promote the rich sounds and tales of the Caribbean thanks to your support. Together, we can ensure that this rich cultural legacy continues to reach a wider audience and foster creativity and connections. While you should always buy music for sale, you should avoid sharing promotional music because it denies songwriters, producers, and artists important revenue.  Please be aware that all of our posts are available online via social media platforms like FacebookYouTubeInstagramSpotify, and SoundCloud.
