Even those of us watching the performance online could sense the anticipation for it. The tune of choice, "Retro" by Voice from the very popular "Tilden Hall Riddim," should sound excellent on pan. The arranger, Andre White, did not disappoint, and the band excelled. Each pan seemed to dance to White's arrangement, resonating with the soulful vibes of the "Tilden Hall Riddim." Skiffle’s performers were clearly in their element, channeling both precision and passion in every strike and sway.
However, the harsh reality of modern technology tempered our enthusiasm, as anyone watching the live feed can attest. The spotty internet feed, a frustration too many of us are familiar with, repeatedly interrupted the seamless flow of Skiffle’s performance. The uninvited guest of constant buffering dimmed the brilliance of what should have been an unhindered auditory experience.
One can tell from watching the video that the players were enthusiastic and enjoyed their performance for the fans in attendance. That was not the case for the international viewers. One can only hope that the next round of competition, a paid event via the internet, does not have the same buffering issues.
We hope that Skiffle's next performance is free from technical pitfalls, enabling us to fully appreciate their true excellence. Best of luck in the competition ahead!
