The performances today include three categories of orchestration:
- Primary Schools—12 Steelbands
- Secondary Schools—10 Steelbands
- 21 & Under—12 Steelbands
It should be noted that there are some very strict rules regarding the performances today. Rules that are in place for control and simply because of the volume of bands and control of the event.
- The primary school bands should not have playing time that is less than four minutes and/or more than five minutes.
- The secondary school bands should not have playing time that is less than four minutes and/or more than five minutes.
- The 21 & Under bands should not have playing time that is less than four minutes and/or more than five minutes.
- There is a penalty of 1 point deducted from each judge from the scores if a band arrangement/play time falls under or over the limit. The deduction is 1 point for every fifteen seconds under or over the allotted time.
