This is the vein that most Calypsos today are based on, social and or political commentary. Now there is nothing wrong with that but we need more dance-calypso-style songs to ensure that Calypso remains a mainstay for Carnivals in the future. Having said that, Queen Victoria is one of the better Calypsonians in the country today. The Calypso chasm for picking sides on the political side is very wide in Trinidad and Tobago. Those who favor the ruling PNM will love this song. On the other hand, the opposition (that took blows in this song) will differ with their thought process regarding the virtues of a PNM government. So put aside your biases and analyze the Calypso. Are the singer and songwriter on point? Look around you and ask yourself, am I better off today, and is the country heading in the right direction? Go ahead and try it, remove your partisan hat and become a true citizen of the nation. After all, is said and done, if this song leaves you in a quandary then the singer and composer have done their job. Long live Calypso!
