Like Dat | Nailah Blackman

Then and Now... Nailah Blackman
There is much to unpack for this presentation but just to let you know there is a raw version and a clean version of 'Like Dat' by Nailah Blackman. We picked the clean version but, to be honest, we could have chosen either without fear of offending anyone because of the lyrical content... simply put, in one word, 'diction'. It is difficult to understand what she is saying! The music, on the other hand, is really good!

Now if you are into sexuality and visuals then Anson and Nailah nailed this one for sure. I am absolutely sure/confident that Nailah's fans are going crazy over this video. This is the direction they have chosen and we wish them all the success they seek. This video is a real teaser and a bit raunchy. Nailah seems to think that the visuals and sexuality are the engines that will take her to where she wants to reach. Obviously, she is aiming for a crossover hit, maybe she will get there someday.

On this end, we think she is talented enough to travel a different path. She has moved away from the sweetheart image to the sultry vixen willing to entice with her body rather than seal the deal with her talent. We think Nailah needs vocal training to ensure that her diction sells the song. I still have problems understanding what she is saying in her songs. The other artist who has chosen the visual side is Patrice Roberts but her diction is on point. I can understand everything she says in her songs. Like it or not, the truth is Nailah is lacking badly with her diction.

Sex and sexuality sell... yes, that is a fact but that should not be the path for this beautiful and talented granddaughter of Ras Shorty I. Anson, is the one guiding Nailah but Nailah is the one who will have to deal with the positive and negative press. The comments on YouTube all praise this song and Nailah's presentation. As stated above, if you are selling an image of sexuality, if you want to tease then this song nailed it... kudos to the team, if that was the point. However, this talented artist can follow a different path where her talent shines before anyone notices her sexuality.
