The elusive Jolene by KES... this is what it sounded like when Kees performed the song for the virtual version of the Essence Festival of Culture concert. We have Jolene on replay and it has become one of our favorite songs from KES the Band. The entire video performance is included in this post. Kees opened the show/performance with Jolene which runs from 00:00 - 03:20 of the video footage. The audio clip posted here is the same as the video performance.
We absolutely love this song and hope that they stop teasing and release it, after all, it is on YouTube as part of the Essence Festival of Culture. We absolutely love KES the Band, they are the best music band coming out of Trinidad without a doubt and continue to be excellent music ambassadors for Caribbean Culture.
This song, Jolene, reminds us of a song done by Jason 'Shaft' Bishop that is named 'Breadfruit', if you have a copy of that song we would love to repost it! One guy is picking mangoes (wink wink) and the other breadfruit (more winking here); both looking for the same thing for sure. Now, after listening to the song, after watching the video with the images of the mango tree in the background, do you really think Kes is singing about 'mangoes'? Think Calypso double entendre and you will have that 'ah ha' moment. Now enjoy the talent of Kees, enjoy the music of KES the Band.
