Caught Up | Aaron Duncan | Trinidad Soca 2020

From Calypso to Soca to CalypSoca! In as much that we applaud this new music release from Aaron Duncan we need to take note of the conversation at the start of the music video. However, before we indulge ourselves let's get the basics out of the way. This is new music from Aaron Duncan produced by Advokit Productions for Trinidad and Tobago carnival 2020. The song is entitled "Caught Up"; take note, this is CalypSoca!

First, take, this is a really good production! The message, the creativity of the music production, the vocals by Aaron... it is an infection production, we love it; this is the future of Soca! Now back to the initial conversation at the start of the music video.

The ignorance of the youth today, as it pertains to the history of the art-form, is magnified at the beginning conversation of the music video. Aaron had to state and then explain with his performance that Soca came from Calypso! I have a feeling that most of the youth today may not even know who is "Lord Shorty aka Ras Shorty I" and his role with the initial creation of the music we call Soca today... it has evolved from that initial creation to what we have and experience today. It is a sad truth but we move forward with hope for the youth of the nation. Some may add that this was done just for the music video but the reality is that this is the norm... a sad truth but truth all the same.

"Caught Up" uses a solid Calypso vibe with an inclusive and infectious Soca drum kit vibe anchored with a solid bass vibe. If you want to get 'caught up' with this song don't use your computer speakers (unless you have a wicked sound system), you need to use a good pair of headphones to experience the wicked bass that Advokit Productions dropped for this one. We love the lyrical content that spoke of the stalwarts of the genre and the work they did. Kudos to CollegeBoy Jesse and Aaron Duncan for lyrical content that tells a solid story and leaves room for people getting 'caught up' for the next evolutionary state of Calypso into Soca... today enjoy a vibe we call CalypSoca (emphasis of Calypso style with modern-day Soca content).
