Distance | Marvay x Nikita | Barbados Crop Over 2019

Sometimes the hype fizzles after spending some time unraveling the message and the vibe. Let's take this new music release for Crop Over 2019 by Marvay x Nikita, the song is entitled Distance. This is a production of Cherrod Lewis of CL Productions. The teaser was released on May 10 and quickly had close to 2,500 views before the full release was dropped on May 13. This is the disappointing part that the producers now have to deal with.... 19 views and not one comment!

What happened here? Well, the teaser came via Julianspromos while the full track was released by Central Label Limited (centralrecords). Julianspromos is an advertising monster with long reaching arms in the Soca Music industry. A word to the wise... stick with what works! Something about Nikita's vocals reminds me of Destra and while Marvay is one of my favorite Soca artistes I must admit that I did not feel/initially connect with this one. I may regret this when this song takes off... but, I will live with this commentary at this juncture.

After listening to this song I did not come away with a vibe that stuck with me. I was not hooked; maybe I need to listen to the song a few times but here we are... we need to post! Let me try and connect with you, the reader of this post. As an example, take Machel Montano's song "Falling", after listening to that song I can confidently say that you remembered the line "I'm falling, I'm falling for your love"... and then the melody of the music takes over. I did not get any lyrics/melody that stuck with me with 'Distance'. Is it a nice song? Yes it is, but it is missing the magic hook that determines if a song is a hit or miss (or you may look to identify the  melodic expression that identifies the song). I can hear you saying run with, "Too much distance between us, some assistance ah need yuh, my baby". Now tell us what you think.

We encourage you to support the artiste and the production team. We want you to spread the word about the song; please use the comment feature of this post to share your thoughts about the song with your peers. Keep in mind that fair use of social media is an excellent method to promote the artiste and song.  Take a few minutes and comment on the song/music production... the artiste and production team will appreciate your feedback.

As a consideration, it should be apparent that the success of this song depends on your support, please share this post. Now it is up to you to ensure that this song rides the airwaves. Please call your favorite radio jocks and request your song of choice.
