Chutney Soca may be the driving force for East Indian style music that comes out of Trinidad & Tobago but lately, Chutney Soca has taken a hit. The lack of originality and the infusion of Bollywood rhythms (and brazen use of melodies) have cheapened the Chutney Soca marketplace.

However, when a well done, Traditional Chutney music comes along (not to be confused with Chutney Soca), then one pays attention. Today we feature a song entitled "Gunga Ghana" (Goonga Gaane) by Ravi B feat. Dubraj Persad. Listen to the song and share your thoughts about the production.

Now let's correct the record; the trues speeling should be Goonga Gaane which means "Dumb Songs"! This song will be better appreciated if we can understand the lyrical content and follow the story (some English translation should help). What we do know is that Goonga Gaane means "Dumb Songs" and yes, I can already hear it, this is a dumb song! Maybe so but the Chutney fan base loves it to the extent that Ravi B decided to do a remix of the original song with the singer of that first release, Dubraj Persad.

We can only judge this one based on our feelings and, whether or not, we like the vibe (surely I don't understand anything other than the reference to "Dumb Songs") and the general feel for the vocals on the track. The chutney rhythm is driven by the Dholak (hand drum) and the dhantal (mental idiophone) which is preferred by many over Chutney Soca rhythms.
