Stan the Dog Catcher and Kid Kallalloo Electrify Fans at Kaiso Karavan 2019

Music is life; music is love, and it was this love for our culture and some serious persistence that led to this song being promoted on our blog. We are thankful to Mr. Kenny Phillips of WACK Radio for broadcasting this song during the carnival season. If he had not played this song via WACK Radio or WACK TV, we would not have known about it.

Every Carnival season brings us to a point where one song stands out in the Calypso tents but may not gain national notoriety. Today we have that song! The title is "Stan the Dog Catcher," sung by Kid Kallalloo; he is renowned for delivering dry humor in grand style.

Calypso has the ability to approach any topic with seriousness, inject humor, create a dance, and ultimately bring joy to people. Usually, the songs you hear in the Calypso tents are not on the radio unless, of course, you listen to WACK Radio 90.1 FM, where Trinidad and Tobago's culture lives 24/7/365. The Calypsonian creatively uses words and phrases that have two meanings, a technique known as double entendre. As an example, think about this: Stan the Dog Catcher vs. The Dog Catcher Stan. Imagine how a Trinidadian would say it... "De Dog Ketch-a Stan!"

Aha! It seems like a sudden realization has dawned on you, and your smile is now beaming with joy. There is something special about Calypso that Soca music just cannot provide. Our sentiment toward this song is more than generous; it is wicked, mischievous and crafty. For many of those reasons, plus whatever you can add to the conversation, we want you to listen and appreciate how clever the Calypsonian is when he plays with words and phrases. We think you will love this song. Now share this post on all social media platforms, ensuring that your peers do the same.
