Apoo | Rome | Parang Soca Trinidad & Tobago 2019

Oh, oh, this one could run into trouble as far as radio play is concerned. To ban or not to ban, that is the question! Before we get into the 'problem with the song', let's get the formalities out of the way.
This is new music for Trinidad and Tobago Christmas holiday season. The song, Parang Soca style, is named "Apoo"!

😀😁😃😄😇😉😎😟

Those emojis above represent the expressions received here when we listened to the song! I am smiling as I write this post and just for the hell of it will add the following... 👀.

I am a bystander watching the bacchanal unfold! Let's say this, "Apoo", the character, will become a sensation for Christmas 2018 if this song is banned from radio.

As we continue this discussion, keep the words in the quotation marks at the top of the list, "double entendre" (a word or phrase open to two interpretations, one of which is usually risque or indecent). Singers, who are clever, sometimes phrase their sentences to deliver two meanings. In the case of calypso and other downstream Caribbean style music, the sexual inferences are intentional. We added the emojis above because we are very much aware of the play on words used by Rome for impact. We don't have to spell it out but this is not about "Apoo" going on a traveler's guide of Trinidad! Unless you are totally disconnected from the world around you the obvious implication is that the singer is referencing female genitalia with this song... ouch!

Need we say more? I guess now is a good time to sigh and duck for cover as the big stones are hurled our way! Regardless of what happens next, this one is a judgment call for each person listening to the music. One can't go wrong with parang soca music and no one can prove that this song isn't about sightseeing in Trinidad! However, a little mischief won't hurt anyone; get your popcorn and get ready for all the bacchanal as the drama unfolds!
