This is the first official release for Carnival 2015 from Mayaro The Band. The song is entitled "Run Gyal". No, it is not "Run Girl" it is "Run Gyal" a typical Trini Slang and I am only pointing that out because Megan Trainor co-wrote the song with Terry Seales and co-produced the song with Marlon Roach. I guess when she stated that Soca is her "favorite sound" it is also because she was and is soundly coached in Trinidad's culture. These are indeed interesting times. Just off her number one hit making song "All About That Bass" she has placed her mark on the Soca Industry - welcome home Megan!
As mentioned previously this is the band's first official release for 2015. Snakey, who performed with Mayaro the Band last year also has a song entitled "Cyah Rhyme" released for carnival 2015. This song, "Run Gyal" is not the typical Soca song but it keeps to the carnival theme of wining intertwined in lyrics that attempt to tell a story something that most songs lack today. This is a cross over style of music as is the case with most of the new songs released thus far for the upcoming festival.
Take a listen "Run Gyan" and let us know what you think about the lyrics, music and the general feel of the track. Terry Sealse is a good singer and he delivered on the vocal performance. However, this song is only as good as you (the listener) make it. Please leave your remarks via the comment feature of this blog post. All comments will be posted.
