Well look what we have here... a song from Trinidad and Tobago's husband and wife Soca Power House of Bunji Garlin and Fay-Ann Lyons-Alvarez. The song is entitled "Doh Fraid"for this upcoming carnival in 2015.
Do they have a hit song here.... the jury is out on this one and much of the conversation will be centered on Fay-Ann's involvement on the track.
Take a listen to the song and let us know how you feel about it. The music has a nice flow and both artists delivered with excellent vocal performances; but is that enough?
Dwain "Dwaingerous" Antrobus did his thing on the production end and now it is all up to you to determine how well this song does for the upcoming festival. Not not because I said all of those good things it means that this song will be a hit... not at all. Some will surely give it the thumbs down. I don't get the feeling that this one will do well at all... let's see how the radio stations handle it... let's see if Bunji and Fay-Ann can make some headway with this song.
One thing that is commendable about this song is the lyrical content. Someone took time to put together lyrics that tell a story. Lyrics that make you feel proud that you are a West Indian who understands the culture and mentality of our people from every island.
Some of these new songs take some time to get used to and sometimes the initial appeal may be luke-warm, This is a good song and I especially enjoyed Bunji's flow on the track. Fay-Ann was consistent with her vocals. Either you like her or you don't!
The bottom line is that this is a good song, not an instant hit (some will disagree with me), but one that will eventually grow on you as the feting season gets going. Enjoy the vibez!
