Carnival Yo Yo | Super Blue | Trinidad & Tobago 2014

The long awaited song release from Super Blue is here. The song is entitled "Carnival Yo Yo" and it is a good one from the High Priest of Soca! The song was released today (Valentine's Day) and it was received with much love from the radio stations that played it several times. Not only did they 'wheel the song' several times they went on talking about it  for some time (with emphasis on how it will impact the Soca Monarch and Road March competitions).

The song was released with a promotion video (posted below). "Carnival Yo Yo" has a "back in the day Blue Boy" vibe that many old-school Soca lovers with enjoy. I am not sure the younger generation will love the vibe but they will surely respect his ability to come up with effective lyrics unlike most of the other artists who depend on song writers for their lyrics! This is a good vibe from Super and he has found a way to assign the tern 'Yo Yo' to a woman's derrière!

However, the question has to be asked, is it good enough or was it released too late? I know that Super Blue fans are happy but is it really too little too late or was his timing well planned and executed? This song 'has to grow on me' and having said that, Super will have to keep his fingers crossed that the radio jocks make this song popular in a hurry. Now comes the really important part of the equation: Can Super's voice bring this song home during a live performance? If he can be 75% of Super Blue Past he can win the Power Soca title because the songs in this category are weak (regurgitated lyrics) and the singers shout too much during their performances (typical)...

As I mentioned before, the "Power Soca" category is not strong at all and with the shouting Soca singers this competition may be a turn off or just a grand fete on the night of the show. The Groovy Soca Competition is where the real competition is set to take place. Super Blue's chances are better in the weaker Power Soca category where he is scheduled to co-defend the shared title with Machel Montano.  He needs to come prepared and with his A game. Once again the question has to be asked,  can he bring it home? It should be a very interesting Fantastic Friday indeed!

Please don't forget to add to the conversation - we want to get your opinion! Is this a keeper or did you expect something better from the co-defending Power Soca Monarch? Let's try and refrain from Kankalang and Mauvais Langue discussions; just constructive criticism or positive vibes!
