DTP (Different Type of Pumping) | Kofi | T'dad 2014

Whenever a new artiste comes on the scene there is much scrutiny of the vocals, lyrics and the music and from that a perception is created in the media about the artist - first impression is always very important. Score one for the artist because he sang and also wrote the lyrics for his debut release.

This is a debut release from the artiste known as Kofi and his song is entitled DTP (Different Type of Pumping). So how does Kofi measure up with his first release? Well if you read the press release done by Mystie Thongs (see press release below) then this artiste is on his way! impressions.

I will say this about the song... Precision Productions did the music and Mystie writes for Precision so the writeup will obviously be biased towards their artiste. So what do I think? Well this release is smooth and is a bit too polished. The lyrics of this song needs to have an edge to it... I did not get that! This song can be compared to a photo that was "photo shop". There is something missing (repeat). Can I call this pretty boy Groovy Soca? What the hell, I will call it pretty boy Soca because even the music remained flat... nothing jumped out from the  production...it is just a 'very pleasant song'! In this business pleasantries will not get you that hit song that every artist is looking for!

Final Thoughts:
This is a good song but it does not really have anything that will make it a talking point or help it onto the music charts in Trinidad (if that exists). This song needs to have an edge; just the name implies something edgy but I did not get that vibe! This "Different Type of Pumping" and the grace it brings does not fit into the rough rider vibe of the Carnival season ... how about that Mystie?

Press Release:
There is something compelling about a man who invests his energies in providing women with a slow but steady musical tease designed to charm and bring them nothing but pleasure.

Kofi is not only such a man, but with his silky smooth vocals, and self-written witty lyrics, he has managed to make an unforgettable entrance onto the groovy landscape of the 2014 Soca Season.

Perfectly and harmoniously layered, "DTP" (Different Type of Pumpin') is produced by Precision Productions, and guaranteed to easily satisfy even the most demanding of music lovers.

Given the stir this release has already begun to create, it is no wonder insiders are saying that both the song and artist are definitely ones to watch.

Take a look at the video promotion for the song below. I must say that I enjoyed the promo more than I did the production above. There was something special about it and for a solo performance in a night club this will go over extremely well. I really enjoyed this video clip - well done. The visuals and the vocals work well and I especially enjoyed viewing the five video panel strip that was used for the promotion. However, I stand by my comments for the final production that was released by Precision Productions.

Read your views. Don't necessarily agree but... You should note that music pushed or should I say showcased for Carnival in recent times have moved away from the full energy frequencies to more laid back groovy melodies. I will also note that the past couple Soca Monarchs, the competition was really close in the Groovy category. One has to wonder why. I am not sure where and how you do your research but this artiste released a song "All I Know" some months prior to this release by GBM productions if my memory serves me right. I would say I appreciate the lack of hand in the air, wine and not to mention RUM. Think he had a great offering and I only expect greater things to come. He started with a BANG.

Yes you are correct in that most of the artists are going the groovy route... I understand that. However, I never said I did not like the song, I never said he is not a good singer... On the contrary he has a great singing style and I like the song but I thought it needed something to impact the listening audience.. It felt too clean... too polished and that edge is missing... that is all... that is my feeling and that is what I express when I post about songs.

Btw... some controversy always helps! There are so many songs released already but I don't post on all of them just the ones that I find interesting.
