Differentology is the name of the song and it goes without saying that Bunji Garlin has a special song on his hand - a real hit maker. I said earlier that I expect this song to do extremely well on the European Market but look what has already happened! The song is making serious waves on the local market scene and creating a lot of buzz on the Internet Chat sites like Islandmix.com.
Now one would expect that with such a popular song that serious DJ's would take the song and remix it to create something that keeps the essense of the track while adding something different. Some have said that the song is so special that it does not need a remix... don't touch the track! Has it reached the stage that it is now sacrilegious to remix a song? Well some on islandmix are behaving like that is the case!
To date there have been two remixes posted on islandmix.com. One is a J'ouvert Remix (Rhythmic Sounds Extended J'ouvert Mix) and the other is the reason for this posting...the Hard Mix done by Trini Lion!
I tend to favor people who send me stuff and Trini Lion has sent me several mixes in the past. I was troubled when people started criticizing the mix because they believe that the song was good enough as released. I wanted to respond about that but saw the following post by Trini Lion on islandmix that is very appropriate and, in my biased view, correct:
"My remixes are MY creative expression. I understand where you coming from though ... but I don't mix up into the Soca politics."
I am on the side of the 'Whooooogoooouuuuuuuuud mixologist' with this one. The mix is his creative expression and it is a good one too! Well done Sound Lion!
