Hard Wuk | Beverly S | Trinidad 2013

Beverly is a new artist on the scene and for this fact (and because I like the album cover) we will show some love and support! The track is titled "Hard Wuk" and it was produced by Jay De Belcon out of Nutation Records. The music has a familiar feel and keeps a good rhythm throughout. I want to know what 'Hard Wuk' that Beverly S is calling for in this song. She said that she can handle pressure (read between the lines).

OK let's get down to business now... what do I think about the song and music that carries the lyrics for this one title "Hark Wuk"? BTW, I did show some love and support in my opening paragraph but it is now back to the business at hand.

Lyrics:
First off I don't think that the song writer was creative enough. I know what the song is all about and it may fit into the scheme of things for Carnival but a first song should leave a lasting impression. The lyrics could have been better! I mean one does not have to understand the meaning of double entendre to know the implications of the lyrics for this one.

Vocal Performance:
I hope, with her tone, that her follow up music does not sound the same. I have to listen to another track to give my impression on her singing talent - especially her range. You can't sound the same and stay relevant in this business. I wish her well though.

Musicality:
Nothing much to say other than it is a good music production. It is so easy to say that the music sounds familiar. This is because there are so many riddims coming out that most of the new music has a familiar sound. The producers have to become a bit more creative. Having said that, I have to say that I like the music.

Replay Worthiness and Lasting appeal:
In today's Soca business it is hard to get that first hit and stay relevant. The producers and Beverly will have to get the song out and visit radio stations to get the music out. If she does not then this song will not get the airplay they desire. Until she puts her stamp on a track that people love she will have an up-hill task to have a song that get the rotation she desires.

Look this is a good first effort but she needs to get her music to the DJ's and radio stations. People need to hear the song. Islandmix is a very good start and as I write this post the song already received 65 plays and it was just released... not bad! I like the song and wish Beverly all the best!
