Fya Empress Wins the St. Vincent Calypso Monarch 2012

On Sunday July 8th, 10 Calypsonians competed against Maxwell 'Tajo' Francis for the National Calypso Crown during Dimanche Gras. After it was all said and done the 2012 Calypso Monarch for st. Vincent was announced with the new calypso monarch crowned! Tobagonian based Vincentian singer Fya Empress dethroned last year's champion Tajoe and walked away with the coveted title of Calypso Monarch.

The singers were good and in the end Fya Empress finished a very impressive Carnival 2012 by winning the Ragga Soca Competition, finishing second in the Soca Monarch competition and finalizing a season to be remembered by winning the Calypso Monarch. It should be noted that this win streak is a continuation of a winning streak that started earlier this year in Trinidad. She won the National Women's Action Committee (NWAC) National Calypso Queen Competition in Trinidad and Tobago with her performance of the song "I am Woman".  one of the songs she sang to win the St. Vincent Calypso Monarch title.
