We are back with another look, another listen, and another feel for "Show Meh" by Machel Montano. Our initial assessment wasn't favorable. In our first review, we noted that "unfortunately, after multiple listens, 'Show Meh' on the D Soca Steam Riddim just doesn't deliver the impact we expected from the King's opening salvo for Carnival 2027."
Well, when the artist is Machel Montano, you don't dismiss a song after one review. The man has earned the right for us to take a second look. And that second look arrives in the form of the newly released visualizer.
So what do we think?
First things first: somebody spent some money.
Shot at the stunning Secret Bay in Dominica, the visuals are breathtaking. The island becomes a star in its own right, showcasing lush landscapes, luxury surroundings, and postcard-worthy scenery that immediately make you want to book a ticket and experience Dominica for yourself. From a tourism standpoint, this production is a winner.
Then there is the female lead. The casting works. She brings beauty, charm, and enough intrigue to keep the story moving while also complementing the song's theme of authenticity and self-expression.
The visualizer undoubtedly helps sell the song.
But here's the thing...
The same feeling remains after watching it.
"Show Meh" is still a groove Soca track that feels a little too restrained for what should have been the King's opening statement for Carnival 2027. The concept is solid. The message is positive. The lyrics encourage people to accept themselves and embrace their true selves.
However, some of the lyrical ideas feel familiar. We've heard variations of this theme before, and the songwriting never quite reaches a moment that stands out and sticks with you.
As for Machel himself, he feels surprisingly subdued throughout the video. Gone are the explosive, hyper-energetic moments that once defined his early releases. Perhaps that's intentional. Perhaps maturity, experience, and fatherhood have shifted the approach. Whatever the reason, this version of Machel feels more laid back than electrifying.
Will fans love the visualizer?
Absolutely.
Will the beautiful locations, production quality, and strong imagery generate positive comments?
Without question.
But our original assessment remains unchanged:
The visuals elevate the experience, but the song itself still feels too tame and too laid-back for an opening salvo from the King of Soca.
Having said that, major kudos to the production team. If the mission was to showcase the beauty of Dominica and create a visually appealing experience, they succeeded admirably.
