WACK Visual Radio 90.1 FM First Semi Finals at Cafe Blue: Karaoke Competition

Some go for intrigue, some for amusement, but the raw talent on display could win a recording contract! Indeed, the stage is set and the mic is live, and while the singers may be nervous, the vibe is unmistakedly Trinidadian flavored. WACK Visual Radio’s 2025 Karaoke Competition has officially entered its semi-final phase, and the first showdown promises some disappointment and definitely some surprises. This competition, conceived by our cultural ambassador Kenny Phillips from WACK Radio 90.1FM and the newly appointed NAPA Chairman, aims to celebrate the voices, personalities, and cultural flair that contribute to Trinidad and Tobago's vibrant creative scene.

The first semi-final round of competition takes place at Kafe Blue in Port-of-Spain; it is an intimate setting that could be the place that the next singing star is discovered! The contenders have already proven they can command attention, but now they must deliver performances that resonate beyond melody—channeling rhythm, wit, and raw emotion. The only disappointment for this viewer is that many competitors who chose to sing standard American songs did not add a Caribbean vibe to the songs! Those who opted to sing local songs make the vibe of the show feel authentic. We should always praise local talent, but we must also strive to promote local music; this is important to note. Whether it’s a soulful ballad or a soca-infused crowd-pleaser, each act is a reflection of our region’s musical heartbeat.

For Sokah2Soca, the contest isn’t just another event—it’s a reminder of why we champion platforms like WACK. Kenny Phillips continues to carve out space for everyday voices to shine, and in doing so, he reinforces the idea that culture isn’t confined to the elite—it lives in karaoke bars, backyard limes, and yes, on Visual Radio.

So if you’re in the mood for talent, laughter, and a little lyrical magic, tune in or pull up. The first semi-final is more than a competition—it’s a celebration of who we are, one note at a time.

Let us spread awareness of the Caribbean diaspora's culture.
Our goal is to promote Caribbean culture, musicians, and music producers. We are able to honor and promote the rich sounds and tales of the Caribbean thanks to your support. Together, we can ensure that this rich cultural legacy continues to reach a wider audience and foster creativity and connections. While you should always buy music for sale, you should avoid sharing promotional music because it denies songwriters, producers, and artists important revenue. Please be aware that all of our posts are available online via social media platforms like FacebookYouTubeInstagramSpotify, and SoundCloud.
