Carnival Monday @ Victoria Square, Port of Spain: A Celebration of Culture and Color

"Mama, look at Mas!" As the sun rose for Carnival Monday at Victoria Square in Port of Spain, the traditional mas characters made their way to the judging point, displaying hilarious behavior to portray their mas. But it was not just traditional mas; there was mud, and yes, real, yucky mud transported, in some instances, in a bath tub! This year, Victoria Square is a hub of activity, showcasing the rich traditions and modern flair that make Carnival an unforgettable experience.

Everyone is free to express themselves during the morning period. Revelers could get as creative as they desired and 'play-ah-mas!' However, as early morning gave way to mid-morning and then midday, the morning expression of free revelry made way for the bands that would bring out the lovely mas on Carnival Tuesday. But, on Monday, there is a minimalist approach to the costumes that would explode on the streets like a butterfly leaving its coocoon.  Bands like 'The Lost Tribe' made their way to Victoria Square full of energy and an explosion of color to wow those who came to witness this cultural experience.  The atmosphere was electric, with soca hits like Bunji Garlin's "Carry It" and Machel Montano's "Pardy" vying for the coveted Road March title.

Those who could not make it to Trinidad and Tobago for Carnival 2025 were thankful that videographer Radicle Tube streamed the festivities to a global audience via YouTube. We understand that people wanted to see the madness taking place at Socadrome and at the Queens Park Savannah today and we managed to include a few clips showing what happened today. We will attempt to add additional videos to the YouTube player below.  As the vibrant rhythms and lively performances captivated viewers worldwide, fans eagerly shared their reactions on social media, further amplifying the excitement. The infectious energy of the Carnival, with its dazzling costumes and electrifying music, transcended borders, bringing people together in celebration, no matter where they were.
