Fire in the hole; musical shots fired! So many things come to mind for tonight's Calypso Monarch finals! Will Yung Bredda shock the Calypso world and wrest the title from reigning monarch Machel Montano? Will MM achieve back-to-back glory tonight? So many questions need to be answered. Undoubtedly, the surprise for Carnival 2025 is the resurgence of Calypso, surpassing the Soca Monarch competition! Who saw that coming?
There is so much intrigue for tonight's competition. While we focus on Machel and Yung Bredda, there are surprises lurking in the background. Kurt Allen, "The Last Bardjohn of Calypso," has a brilliantly written Calypso that deserves attention but may find disfavor with fans because of political implications... that's the world we are living in today. Former kings and queens are prepping for tonight's battle. Watch out for Terri Lyons and her song "Ask Yuh Man," which is fitting for the carnival bacchanal. Remember that Twiggy is still relevant at 65, while Squeezy Rankin still seeks justice. I feel like the 'dark horses' in the race are Helon Francis and Ta'zyah O'Connor!
Whoever you support, tonight will be music and TV, and the great thing is that you don't have an excuse not to watch... the show will be streamed 'free of charge! So tune in tonight, find yourself in a chat box, and let the fun begin. Enjoy the show, and let's see if Machel will continue on his journey to get the Trifecta this year: Chutney Soca, Calypso Monarch, and Road March! What is your opinion?
