The future of Calypso in Trinidad and Tobago is in excellent hands: "With Calypso, all stories are told," and there was music to love with today's performances. The future of Calypso in Trinidad and Tobago lies not with TUCO, but rather with the children who performed on stage today. The Children were amazing: The vibrant and passionate sounds of Calypso once again took center stage on Saturday, February 15, 2025, as the National Junior Calypso Monarch Competition Semifinals unfolded. This annual event, organized by the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organization (TUCO), showcases the future voices of Calypso, igniting the spirit of cultural heritage and musical excellence in our youth.
However, despite the undeniable talent on display, TUCO missed a crucial opportunity to promote this significant stage of the competition adequately. TUCO's lack of an official video feed left enthusiasts and supporters of Calypso music disheartened. Instead, the show was streamed by a dedicated videographer known as "Gartsy." While we genuinely appreciate Gartsy's efforts to bring the event to the digital audience, it's clear that a better approach could have been taken.
Clearly, we need an improved streaming solution. As much as we commend Gartsy for stepping up and providing a video feed, we believe a more effective way forward would have been to engage or hire WACK Visual Radio 90.1 FM to stream the show. WACK Visual Radio has consistently proven its ability to deliver high-quality programming, establishing itself as a trusted name in broadcasting cultural events. Their expertise and experience in streaming would have undoubtedly elevated the coverage of the semifinals, reaching a wider audience and enhancing the overall viewing experience.
There is still hope as the finals approach; we can look forward to a better approach. As we anticipate the finals of the National Junior Calypso Monarch Competition, we sincerely hope that TUCO will take note of the feedback and ensure proper promotion and streaming of the event. An official stream, sanctioned and organized by TUCO, will not only showcase the young talents more effectively but also celebrate the essence of Calypso music in a manner it truly deserves.
Let's rally together in support of our young Calypsonians and hope that the finals will be a testament to the remarkable talent and cultural heritage that Calypso represents. May TUCO embrace the opportunity to promote and stream the event with the same passion and dedication that our young performers bring to the stage. Share this post with TUCO and stay tuned for updates on the National Junior Calypso Monarch Competition Finals!
