Tonight, the Highlanders Steel Orchestra took to the stage with an electrifying performance of "Hooked" by Destra Garcia, masterfully arranged by Kareem Brown, at Pan Trinbago's Small Conventional Bands Preliminary Judging.
Our journey to bringing this song to life was an unexpected adventure. "Hooked" was unfamiliar to this blogger, and we are confident that it was not familiar to many who tuned in to witness the performance. A quick look up on YouTube revealed that it was a song from Carnival 2008! Thanks to YouTube, we were able to listen to and immerse ourselves in the song, and we were then able to fully appreciate the arranger's intricate arrangements.
Experiencing a well-played musical arrangement is always a delight, but when you know the song and can catch the nuances of it, it transforms into something truly magical. This evening, our hearts swelled with pride as we delivered a performance that was both spirited and precise.
