Naomi Sinnette is the new Calypso Queen of Trinidad and Tobago Carnival 2024

The NWAC National Calypso Queen competition took place at Queen's Hall, St. Ann's, on January 21. Eighteen women competed for the coveted title of National Calypso Queen. After the singing was over, a winner emerged, and a very youthful singer named Naomi Sinnette emerged as the new Calypso Monarch of Trinidad and Tobago.

Her winning song, "Dem Advisors," was composed by Maria Bhola. The message was deliberate and delivered a powerful message about domestic violence and the need for more action to protect victims. It was an amazing performance by the youthful 20-year-old, who surpassed several seasoned veterans to seize the grand prize.

Winning Song Synopsis:
This song speaks about the advice that is given to domestic victims. They are often told to leave, but leaving comes with serious consequences. Many would criticize the victim, not understanding that leaving is much easier said than done and that much more needs to be put in place for the victim to escape these dangerous relationships.

Eighteen Singers competed and the top six positions were as follows:
  1. Naomi Sinnette - Dem Advisors
  2. Curlissa Charles-Mapp - Competition
  3. Kerine "Tiny" Williams-Figaro - Through These Eyes
  4. Alana "Lady Watchman" Sinnette-Khan - Shopping in Miami
  5. Louisa Smith - Tight Rope
  6. Wendy Garrick - Keep Yuh Head Up
