If you crave a Soca music weekly chart, here comes COTT to the rescue. COTT has posted a weekly chart on Facebook for Soca music fans. Now, you may or may not agree with the listing, but they have stated how charting is done. The problem is not with COTT but with the Radio Stations from which Radio plays are tabulated. You may have many questions and we would like to hear them...
Who determines what songs are on rotation? Do the DJ's have a say in the song selections or is it a function of the management/program director? We also want to know if requests for songs by listeners are acknowledged and played by the radio stations. Are the radio stations all located in Trinidad or extend to the Caribbean? There are so many questions, and someone needs to answer them and inform the public.
We are also curious about the role artists (Soca artists) play regarding the rotation of their songs on the radio station. Are the plays influenced by social media or by the relationships shared by the artists and radio DJ's? Tell us what you think...
How COTT generates the chart:
Our chart is informed by data obtained from VERICAST - the software used by COTT to capture this and other types of musical data. The chart represents the local radio play of our members and, does not include music created by non-members. We monitor approx. 34 stations during this process. The data is then tabulated on a weekly basis, and the top 10 songs played across all stations make up the #TOP10.
Let's take our culture places:
Our goal is to help promote the music and culture of our Caribbean artists. The singers, musicians, producers, songwriters, and all those involved in the creative process. Together we can promote and spread the culture by sharing these posts on all social media platforms.
We are on Facebook; Twitter; YouTube; Instagram and Soundcloud. All our posts are available on FeedBurner/feeds, and via Email Subscription: Get Sokah2Soca delivered by email. Thank you in advance.
