What if someone asked you to describe carnival and the period leading up to carnival is all about? What would you say to them? Maybe you will tell them it is about attending parties (aka fetes) and having a good time. So what does having a good time mean? Whether it's getting into the music with friends, dancing with someone special to you (carnival time it is a sweet whine/wine), or just feeling the vibe and dancing all alone to the music. Oh, and yes, drinking local beer and rum to ease into the fete vibe. Then again, you can tell them that you had a good time, you felt the vibe and just 'bruk out' the scene. Hello, all this talk about 'bruk out' but what is the meaning of the slang? To 'bruk out' is Jamaican slang that simply refers to 'misbehave'. Now, for the sake of Soca and carnival the term does not mean to become rebellious and misbehave to the detriment of others. No! An individual who has bruk out to Soca music lets go of all inhibitions and has a great time. In other words, just let loose and have a damn enjoyable and very memorable time with friends at a Soca fete or on Carnival Day!
