Fete and feting is the word for Trinidad & Tobago carnival 2023. After a two-year hiatus because of the Covid-19 Pandemic, we are back and can call it the start of a new normal. It is time to fete and get on 'wassy'... and that means we have to know the new music. New Soca songs came in a rush in January and left many of the steelpan arrangers hustling to get their songs arranged. A few of the new songs made it to Panorama but the parties (fete venues) have all the new music. Now we have to ask the question, 'which songs are tearing up the fetes'? In other words, which songs are being drilled into people's heads, or which are the most requested to date?
Nailah Blackman and Skinny Fabulous' offering entitled, "Come Home" is very popular, and everyone seems to know the song. The thing is, I don't like the introduction to that song which feels like a ballad but then it erupts into a carnival villain. On the other hand, there is my favorite guy tearing up fetes, Bunji Garlin with "Hard Fete" and "Umbrella". Hard Fete is the one that I love; it is aggressive and will mash up the road for carnival 2023. Yes, I must admit that a popular party song doesn't make for a Road March contender but I have a feeling that, as the season unfolds, "Hard Fete" will take over! Just to be fair to the rest of the contenders, we selected the list below from Dre's post from TriniJungleJuice. Oh, and people, don't sleep on that song from Machel Montano and Patrice Roberts, "Like Yuhself" could also sweep! What do you think about this song list and which songs do you think are missing?

The most important remarks of Dre's (TriniJungleJuice) video log were made concerning the songs that the masqueraders cross the stage with that will determine the Road March winner. The Road March winning song is a people's choice song. However, the mas bands, in collaboration with Soca artists & producers, will play what they want to cross the stage not the masquerader's requested song or songs. Pay attention to those comments at the end of the video because that is exactly what he is referencing.
