The Ambush by Lyrikal x Lil Natty & Thunda | Road March Material?

Let's ask the question right out of the box now that all the new music releases are geared toward Power Soca songs. Keep in mind that these Power Songs are being released to vie for the Road March competition, a prestigious title laying claim to 'we control the road'! Do you think that this is 'the song' to steal "The Road March Competition" in Trinidad & Tobago for Carnival 2023? What do you think? Does it fit into the style of music that Trinbagonians are used to? Do you see those ladies playing 'pretty-mas' prancing to this song for any length of time?

Now, let's ambush this song! Here is what I think... No! Why do I say so? This song is a real surprise coming from "Badjohn Republic", but the surprise does not make a winner! The combination of Lyrikal x Lil Natty and Thunda came out of the left field; a pleasant surprise indeed; it is an excellent Power Soca production. Having said that, and after listening to the song, I have to say that this vibe is more suited to the upper Caribbean style of Carnival music. This song is an excellent fit for Carriacou, Grenada, and Saint Vincent carnivals but I just don't see Trinis latching on to this song. I could be wrong and trust me, Kyle Phillips and his crew down South will be very critical of this post. "What does he know about music? Did he produce anything in his life? I wish I am wrong but I know my people and I just don't think this song will win the Road March... I may regret this post but listen to the song and share with me the catchphrase that Trinis will be singing showing how much they love the song.  Do that and we will have a conversation regarding a winning moment for this track.

Trinis are more into the style of music with a sweet voice like a Kes or Voice. Maybe a Bunji Garlin this year? Food for thought people... keep in mind that it does not necessarily have to be a Power Soca song to win the Road March. Keep an eye on the "Spirit of Carnival Project" featuring Kes with "Mental Day", Bunji Garlin with "Umbrella" and Machel Montano with "The Spirit" or Machel x Destra Garcia with "Shake the Place"... hey you never know what will happen!

If you vex, yuh vex... c'est la vie! There are many power soca songs out there and a song like this will have masqueraders tired before they arrive at the judging points unless... here is the catch, read on; unless there is an agreement to play this song at the judging points! That is my gripe, the problem with this "Road March Competition", judging should be on the streets and not just at the judging points. The Road March is meant for the most popular song. Remember the post that caused problems for this poster, "Road March or Stage March", only time will tell. In the interim, check out the post we did featuring many of the Power Soca Songs for Carnival 2023, maybe, just maybe you will find the song to capture the Road March Title for carnival 2023. In the meantime... don't be a hater, this is just my opinion!
