Who is Sheldon "Shelly" Alfred? This man just 'tun up' my head with a beautiful song entitled, "Testing Positive". This song is solid, this song is uplifting... this is life! Shelly, as he is fondly known as the lead singer of Signal Band out of Dominica... Bouyon land! After testing positive for Covid-19 and experiencing the pain of the disease he wrote this song to inspire people to cope with the pressure of these uncertain times. This song is a blessing... inspirational and needed.
Build it and they will come, go online and search for new music and surely YouTube will offer up something for the curious listener. Then you realize that in the World of Soca music almost everything has a carnival festive flavor. It is all about dancing and having a good time, wining, jamming, flag-waving (once upon a time), and anything that encourages twerking and waist gyration. However, how does one react when something with an encouraging message washes over our auditory senses? It is unusual, a breath of fresh air, or should we pause and engage in something with a positive message or just move on to the next frame. No, my friend, you pause and take note, this is what happened today after I heard the song, "Testing Positive" by Shelly; it is a beautiful and much-needed song.
Shelly sings, "Father if life is testing us, I'm testing positive"! Right there is the secret to life itself. Whatever comes your way, your attitude towards anyone, anything, or any situation should be positive. Throughout the song the message is consistent, remain positive. Initially, when I saw the name of the song 'Testing Positive', I thought about testing positive for something, drugs, or disease but as the song started it all came into play with the serene look on the face of the singer. This is all positive, all about a positive outlook and attitude towards life and how we interact with everyone we come in contact with as we travel this journey called life.
So remember, regardless of the situation, Covid, or whatever barriers or hurdles you encounter in life follow Shelly's message, live the lyrics of the song, and test "Positive"... I feel better already!
