Like the Old English rhyme, the Dutty Dutty Riddim took something 'old' as in a 2020 vibe, added some artists, and voila we have a 2022 riddim release. The something old reference is here to add continuity to the borrowed music from the year 2020. This riddim is all over the place, listed under different genres and riddim names... all the same vibe.
We have a problem with Soca music not having its own ranking on most major music platforms. The producer of this riddim is not helping the cause. They have the music listed as Soca on YouTube but #Dancehall on SoundCloud. Dj Cheem's track is on YouTube with 19K views from August 2020. On Soundcloud, it is listed under the #Reggae on the 'Tek Bamboo Riddim".
If the artists and producers can't get it right then how do we expect the major record labels to understand what we want? The Soca music travails will continue for a while yet, we need to all be on the same page. However, who cares? Do you? Marketing is a hell of a thing, isn't it? All we care about is this Riddim has a vibe and that bodes well for party freaks!
