Down Memory Lane | Mother Earth by Brother Resistance

Brother Resistance is no longer with us; the  Calypso fraternity went into mourning when the nation learned that Brother Resistance dies on July 13th. 2001. He was the president of Trinbago Unified Calypsonian's Organisation on his passing. Lutalo Makossa Masimba aka Brother Resistance (born Roy Lewis) and the Network Rapso Riddim Band had their debut album, 'Bursting Out' in 1981. Together, Brother Resistance and the Network Rapso Riddim Band went on to several albums over a period of thirty years including:
"Tonight is de Nite (1988), Heart of the Rapso Nation (1992), De Power of Resistance (2000), and When De Riddum Explode (2006). Among his hits were Ring De Bell, Tonight is De Night, Mother Earth, and Handclapping Song"- credit NewsDay, Trinidad).

Today, for this segment we feature 'Mother Earth' in memory of this trailblazing artist... may he rest in peace. Discogs labeled him a Trinidadian rhythm poet and musician but in Trinidad & Tobago, he was one of the main innovators of the Soca offshoot, Rapso (created by Lancelot Layne). No one will dispute the fact that Brother Resistance defined Rapso and because of his influence and that of the Network Rapso Riddim Band cemented the music as part of Trinidad and Tobago's musical culture. Today, for this installation of 'Down Memory Lane' we feature 'Mother Earth' by Brother Resistance.

We think that this song will rekindle memories of years past for those who lived in Trinidad and Tobago during that period. This song is very relevant today. Just look around at what is taking place regarding weather patterns across the World. There are extreme weather scenarios creating disastrous hurricanes, flooding, and in some areas, fires destroying large forested areas. Listen to the words of the prophet and understand that the prophet poet saw trouble with mother nature coming to negatively impact the earth...
