The hype of the Road March Race is real for Trinidad and Tobago Carnival. The dust is settling and the clear favorites are "Famalay" and "Savannah Grass". Notwithstanding the fact that "Run Wid It" is the most popular song in Trinidad and Tobago today, the road battle follows a different path. "Run Wid It" is all hype, mischief and fun for a show or fete scene. On the road for carnival Monday and Tuesday (Parade of the Bands) it is all about chipping, having fun, freeing up all stresses and just having a good time. That brings us to the top two contenders: "Famalay" and "Savannah Grass".
Initially everyone thought it was a done deal, "Famalay" was the song and it was a forgone conclusion that it was the clear winner (even before the race got going). Today, fans of "Famalay" are cautiously optimistic with the rise in popularity of "Savannah Grass". Kes is loved, he is the 'girls-dem' darling, he cried on stage reminiscing about the life of his father, people connected with him... he is just loved by his fans and the people in general. We broke the chain of command and revolted away from the "Famalay" massive and selected "Savannah Grass" to take the Road March Title this year. It is an exciting time and the race will be close. Both camps are campaigning to have their song played on the road with the majority of bands.
We posted an article entitled, "Savannah Grass 4 D'Road & Famalay 4 D'Stage" where we declared our desire to see Kes win the Road March title this year. What do you think? Which song do you prefer and why? We think that Savannah Grass has it all and it good for all types of revelers while "Famalay" is more for the energy revelers. Let's hope the Famalay crowd drinks loads of energy drinks to last the day... tell us how you feel!
