Oil Cyah Spoil (Calypso Fiesta Performance 2019) | Tamika Darius

Gone are the days when politicians romanticized the idea that "money eh no problem". Today, with economic malaise, that is not the case. However, decisions made, as it relates to the livelihood of Petrotrin workers, were not easy to handle. The demise of a company, brought upon the workers by mismanagement and government policies, led to retrenchment and despair. This is were the voice of the people, the Calypsonian, comes to record this moment in time as a historical record. We present a song written by Christophe Grant, vocalized by Tamika Darius and produced by legendary music producer Mr. Kenny Phillips of KMP Music Lab out of San Fernando, Trinidad.

We look at the song from this point of view:
Oil cyar spoil, but it get sour (the resource will last for ever but today production/mismanagement of resources is a problem/money is a problem/decision making is a problem)
Oil cyar spoil, water more than flour (the value of the resource has diminished and things are bad/times are tough)

This is the live performance of Oil Cyar Spoil performed for the semi-stage of competition for the Trinidad and Tobago Calypso Monarch competition. If you love Calypso, then you would appreciate the message in this song. This is an example of what makes for a great Calypso... on point lyrical content, sweet vocals and excellent music. What else can one ask for? Maybe, someone should ask the judges because they were not impressed and this excellent song did not make it to the Trinidad an Tobago Calypso finals competition.

Just like "Oil Cyar Spoil" a good Calypso will never be forgotten. We expect this one to be played for years to come. Look for the opposition to use songs like this one to bolster their argument.
