Pan Kankalang | Pelham Goddard & Exodus Change Song

There is a firestorm brewing amongst steel pan aficionados regarding the decision of Exodus to change their song of choice for the Panorama finals competition in Trinidad and Tobago. Social Media is ablaze with 'ole talk' for and against the change of song this late in the competition.  There appears to be consternation at Pan Trinbago regarding their position as it relates to the rules of the competition.

Why is this happening? Pelham Goddard is an awesome musician and steel pan music arranger... someone or some people are scared that Exodus will move up from their ninth place in the semi-finals and crack the top three for the finals. We have an opinion regarding this current 'comess'. Here goes...

What is the big deal? Pelham and Exodus are putting themselves at a disadvantage by choosing a new song! Pelham has to arrange, the band has to learn and the drill master has to work the team to get the orchestration right with very limited time to get it done. Did you get that? Now, while this is taking place, the  rest of the bands in the competition will simply be fine tuning their arrangements. They may choose to add, take away and then finalize their arrangements while Exodus is creating a new musical presentation without the luxury of being judged previously so that they can then fine tune for a finals show...

If you think about it, if you are in competition and your opponent chooses this option (to change song) you should celebrate and cross them off the list of band to be concerned about, right? Aah, but this is Pelham and the fear of this talented musical genius has some people nervous. This is going to be fun and we are on the side of Pelham and Exodus. We celebrate the fact that "Savannah Grass" will be played for Panorama. After all, Savannah Grass is our Road March pick even thought the country is going gaga over Famalay and now Mr. Killa's 'Run With It'.

To those who are against this change of song... relax. Enjoy the music, the competitive genius of our genius steel band music arranger and may the best musical arrangement, best performance rise to the top. Full disclosure... we pick Renegades to repeat this year!
