Who Let The Dogs Out | Our Last Night Out x Baha Men | New Version 2018

There is a new dog in the house, a new version of "Who Let The Dogs Out" done by "Our Last Night Out x Baha Men; this version drops in the category of Rock Music.

Now while many may get excited to hear this song again, to rock with it again, there is still a lot of misconceptions regarding who wrote it, the first release date of the song and its meaning.

Let's start the conversation by referencing a current thread on  Facebook where Ian Soca Pro and a few friends discuss the song and set the record straight. We will get into it soon but it is all about getting the facts right!

Once again, we see no recognition given to the songwriter continuing the disrespect to Soca and Caribbean artistes/songwriters. How did we get there and what is the story behind "Who Let Dogs Out"? Let's be clear, this song was originally released as Doggie (Who Let The Dogs Out) back n 1998, that is two years before the Baha Men released their version of the song. Let's take a quote from Ian 'Socapro' Henry: They seem to have forgotten that this song was originally written and released by Anslem Douglas and became popular as a soca hit back in 1998! Why no mention of Anslem?

Go online and look up the song and you will see the name "Baha Men" stamped on the song when, in fact, there were two versions of the song released in 1998. Both versions of the song featured Anslem Douglas (the songwriter) on vocals but the original version was arranged by Ossie Gurley and the remix version arranged by the great Leston Paul. No mention is made of this fact and one has to be from 'D'Islands' to know the true record. We have included the latest version of the song for this post along with the original and remix versions from 1998. Never forget that the version by the Baha Men was released in the year 2000!

Now let's clear up one more thing about the song... the meaning! Some people mistakingly think that the song is a 'diss on women' and that it was about ugly women... no, that is incorrect. If you also think that the song was literally about dogs... you are also incorrect. To understand the song we will do two things; first, we will post a few meaningful lines from the song then post the explanation of said song by the man who penned it, Mr. Anslem Douglas.

Lyrical content:
"And tell the fellas (to) stop the name Callin'
Tell them girls respond to the call
I hear a woman shout out
Who let the Dogs out?"

Here is what Anslem Douglas had to say about the meaning of the song (quoted from an article on zmonline.com):
"The men started the name-calling and then the girls respond to the call. And then a woman shouts out, 'Who let the dogs out?' And we start calling men dogs. It was really a man-bashing song."

We did not want to get into too much detail of the Facebook conversation but simply to get the main point out... and give Anslem Douglas the respect he deserves. Link to Anslem Douglas' Facebook page here to follow the artiste: https://www.facebook.com/AnslemDouglas/?hc_location=ufi
