The names of the Chutney Soca Monarch Semi Finals contestants have been published. We have the list below along with part of an article that was posted to the Daily Express Newspaper in Trinidad and Tobago.
Recently we posted a YouTube expose that showed how many of the Chutney songs have stolen melodies from songs that originated in India.
Let's hope that these songs are not rewarded for this competition and that original compositions/melodies are rewarded instead. We can only hope!
Excerpt from the Trinidad Express Newspaper:
The artistes would be required to perform their track at the semi-finals which will be held on the 28th. of January, 2017 at the LIV Nightlife, South Trunk Rd, Gulf View, La Romaine.
From the semi-final round, nine artistes will be selected to compete against the reigning Chutney Soca Monarch, KI Persad at the grand finals February 11 at Skinner Park, San Fernando. KI Persad is not required to compete at the semi-finals, but will make a special guest appearance.
